You can argue the economics of not being able to raise wages in certain industries. There may be valid arguments on both sides.
I don't buy this argument that if we pay fast food workers more, we won't have doctor's or engineers. I worked at a Teamsters warehouse for 6 years and financially was very comfortable. I eventually got to the point where I felt like I was at the peak of everything I could learn and do in that role. I ended up returning to school to pursue network and system administration. It wasn't until several years into the industry that I had the same rate as my previous role. Money is a reason to do things. Being interested and passionate about something is equally if not more compelling.
I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to pursue a different path. I had family support. Not everyone has that. I definitely feel for people who didn't have the same opportunities.
